Portobello Road Market is a council street market that runs from the antiques end near Chepstow Villas up to the Westway and round into Golborne Road. Monday to Thursday it is a small market of fruit, veg and household stalls between Elgin Crescent and the Westway, and the council says it closes at 1pm on Thursdays. Friday and Saturday the whole market trades. Go on Saturday for antiques: the arcades between Chepstow Villas and Westbourne Grove open that day only, most from 7am until about 4pm, and it is the busiest day. Friday is the second busiest, with the whole market out and the vintage stalls trading under the Westway at Portobello Green. Traders usually work from about 8:30am to 6pm and pack up earlier in winter. There is no street market on most Sundays or on bank holidays, apart from Good Friday. For food, start with coffee at Coffee Plant, pick up pastries at Maison Puget or GAIL's, and finish at the Golborne Road end with pasteis de nata from Lisboa Patisserie or pie and mash at Cockney's.
Antiques on Saturday morning are the headline. Friday's food end is where locals actually shop.
